Overview

Our client is a competitive supplier of energy products and services in Northern Virginia.  They have a direct hire opportunity for a Staff Accountant to work a hybrid work schedule out of their Vienna, VA office. Primary duties include overseeing the general ledger, conducting account reconciliations, and ensuring compliance with federal regulations. Applicants must be US Citizens or Permanent Residents.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily accounting operations for a renewable energy client and other subsidiaries as needed.
  • Support the development and enhancement of workflows, systems, and processes to improve efficiency.
  • Participate in monthly due diligence meetings, analyzing and explaining variances across periods, budgets, and forecasts to present the company’s financial results.
  • Perform account reconciliations in BlackLine, including reviewing customer accounts receivable for bad debt reserve analysis and reconciling the AR subledger with the general ledger.
  • Collaborate with business teams to record and analyze power and gas revenue and cost accounts, including renewable energy credits.
  • Manage monthly derivatives accounting and prepare quarterly derivatives disclosures.
  • Prepare invoices for gas and power transactions.
  • Ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley requirements, addressing any remedial actions as needed.
  • Maintain strong communication with the operational team, interpreting findings to assess the impact on balance sheet and income statement accounts and sharing insights with the broader team.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of business experience.
  • CPA certification or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with GAAP, SEC regulations, and energy industry experience is a plus.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft Financial modules (e.g., General Ledger, Fixed Assets, Projects) and BlackLine or similar systems.
  • Willingness to learn new systems and processes.
  • Proficient in Windows, Microsoft Office (including advanced Excel), and Access, with strong data analysis and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for clear and concise presentations.
  • Skilled at building effective relationships with colleagues and business partners.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Salary range of $50K-$70K, based on experience, qualifications, location, licensure, and certifications.  The salary pay range is subject to change and may be modified at any time.
