Overview

Our client is a leading professional trade organization in the real estate sector, seeking a highly motivated Associate Counsel to join their legal team. This role is ideal for a legal professional with a strong interest in public policy, real estate law, and member-focused legal support. The successful candidate will provide legal guidance across a broad range of topics, contribute to member education and resources, and support various organizational committees and initiatives.

 

The role is based in Annapolis, MD.  Once you are established in the role, some remote/WFH opportunities are available.  Per our client contract, this role is available for U.S. Citizens that are able to pass the client’s background requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Provide timely and practical legal advice to members via the Legal Hotline.
  • Lead in-person and virtual training on ethics, fair housing, contracts, and industry updates.
  • Write articles, position papers, and other legal content.
  • Develop content for the website, videos, and member communications.
  • Support and manage legal-related committees.
  • Conduct legal research and prepare memos on real estate and related topics.
  • Stay up to date on legal and regulatory changes in the real estate industry

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school; must be admitted to the Maryland Bar.
  • 2–4 years of legal experience; background with trade associations or real estate-related organizations is highly desirable.
  • Exceptional legal reasoning and analytical skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking and presentation capabilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrated ability to work with diverse individuals and teams.
  • Familiarity with fair housing laws, real estate transactions, campaign finance, or election law is a plus.
  • Proficient with legal research tools and general office software (e.g., Westlaw, Microsoft Office, Zoom).
  • Strong organizational skills and commitment to meeting deadlines and delivering quality work.
  • Per our client contract, candidates must be U.S. Citizens, able to pass the background requirements
