Overview

The Squires Group is seeking an experienced Mobile Desktop Specialist to support a critical federal program focused on providing leading cyber and technology security experience to enable innovative, effective, and secure business processes. In this role you will respond to and resolve escalated technical issues across hardware, software, network, firewall, and storage; assess and integrate enterprise apps and mobile solutions; perform backups and disaster recovery; interface with vendors; support operational changes; maintain documentation; and actively participate in meetings and working groups.

 

Work will be performed on a hybrid (1-2 days onsite) schedule in Washington, DC.  Per our client contract, candidates must be U.S. Citizen, possessing a Secret clearance. 

Responsibilities

  • Develop, test, and deploy software packages using enterprise deployment tools like Microsoft Configuration Manager (MCM).

  • Build, test, and deploy Microsoft OS images for local and remote workstations and laptops using MCM.

  • Configure, test, and implement Active Directory Group Policies.

  • Research, evaluate, and recommend next-generation mobile desktop hardware solutions.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with software deployments and installations affecting the mobile desktop environment.

  • Plan, schedule, coordinate, and execute software package deployments.

  • Collaborate with network, firewall, and system administration teams to resolve software installation issues.

  • Prepare and deliver status reports to the Engineering Manager or Lead as needed.

Operational Duties:

  • Address and resolve escalated issues involving hardware, software, network, firewall, and storage components.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve escalated incidents or service requests from Tier II, as well as planned and unplanned outages, communicating directly with customers as necessary.

  • Evaluate, recommend, and implement operational changes, enhancements, and modifications based on security or operational needs.

  • Review mobile applications and provide recommendations on their approval for use within the mobile platform.

  • Assess, test, and integrate enterprise applications into the mobile desktop environment.

  • Conduct configuration backups and perform disaster recovery operations.

  • Collaborate with vendors to resolve hardware and software issues, gather information on future capabilities, and seek recommendations for product enhancements or configurations.

  • Develop, maintain, and update operational documentation, including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), knowledge articles, user guides, backup and contingency plans, architectural design documents and diagrams, and Information Assurance (IA) documentation.

  • Participate in weekly engineering meetings, attend scheduled onsite meetings, and engage in working groups supporting MRA-sponsored projects.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 9 years of experience in an information technology-related field.

  • 5–10 years of IT engineering and operations/maintenance experience covering design, build, testing, deployment, Tier II and III support, and network infrastructure implementation and maintenance, with an emphasis on desktop deployments using Microsoft products.

  • At least 3 years of hands-on experience configuring and deploying software packages using Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM).

  • Recent or prior experience working with Virtual Private Networks (VPN), including knowledge of VPN architecture, user experience, and basic troubleshooting.

  • Intermediate understanding of core networking concepts such as IP addressing, subnetting, and firewalls.

  • Recent experience building and managing images for Windows workstations and servers.

  • Proven ability to deploy Microsoft OS patches and hotfixes to workstations and servers using MCM and other Microsoft tools, including testing software packages, documenting results, and resolving issues.

  • Experience performing enterprise-wide desktop or server migrations from legacy operating systems to current versions.

  • Recent experience configuring and creating Active Directory Group Policies.

  • Strong background in O&M support activities, including developing SOPs, rapidly resolving incidents and service requests, monitoring and maintaining systems, performing root cause analyses, identifying and mitigating risks, and coordinating troubleshooting or testing with third-party vendors.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including collaboration, self-awareness, empathy, and strong written and verbal communication abilities.

  • Recent experience working with anti-virus and encryption tools, PKI and TLS/SSL certificate integrations, and Microsoft Defender.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen with an active Secret clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with enterprise mobile management solutions such as VMware, Citrix, or Microsoft.

  • Experience using ServiceNow.

  • Familiarity with the Department of State environment, including data and voice networks, IT security systems, policies, and procedures, as well as Foreign Affairs Handbooks (FAHs) and Foreign Affairs Manuals (FAMs).

  • Knowledge of InTune, Active Role Server (ARS), and ServiceNow management consoles and interfaces.

  • ITIL® Foundation certification.

  • Basic understanding of how firewall rules interact with mobile device management solutions.
