Overview

Job Title: Senior Tax Accountant – Income Tax Reporting
Location: Washington, DC (Hybrid Schedule)

 

About the Role:Our client, a leading organization in the energy sector, is seeking an experienced Senior Tax Accountant to join their Tax Reporting team. This role will be responsible for supervising and supporting income tax accounting and reporting functions, ensuring compliance with ASC 740, and driving improvements in tax processes and systems. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical tax expertise, leadership abilities, and the ability to collaborate across departments.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the process to maintain records and controls supporting deferred tax balances, including process improvements and system upgrades for tax basis balance sheets and reconciliation of deferred taxes in financial reports and filed returns.
  • Maintain and optimize the comprehensive accrual system pursuant to ASC 740, ensuring accurate and efficient tax calculations while linking tax and accounting systems.
  • Supervise, train, and coach staff in ASC 740 tax accounting processes, enhancing team expertise and process efficiency.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver monthly provision amounts and support required income tax reporting for financial and regulatory purposes.
  • Partner with senior leadership to properly interpret and record tax provisions associated with complex accounting transactions.
  • Maintain and apply technical knowledge in tax accounting, energy industry trends, and multi-jurisdictional regulatory matters.
  • Lead and coach staff to build technical knowledge in accounting and compliance.
  • Support specialized tax considerations related to regulated utility accounting (a plus).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting required.
  • 7+ years of relevant business experience required.
  • A Master’s degree or CPA may substitute for up to one year of experience for each.
  • 2+ years of supervisory or team leadership experience preferred.
  • CPA designation preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of ASC 740 income tax accounting.
  • Strong technical tax skills, including tax research and preparation of tax returns.
  • CorpTax experience a plus.
  • Knowledge of PeopleSoft General Ledger and Query.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with the ability to convey complex tax concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Proven ability to build effective relationships across business functions.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary $110K and up, based on experience, qualifications, location, and certifications.  The salary is subject to change and may be modified at any time.
