Overview

Our client is seeking a dynamic Director of Finance to serve as a key leader within their DC Medicaid health plan. This high-impact role is central to guiding financial strategy, overseeing planning and analysis, managing regulatory relationships, and ensuring smooth financial operations. From building budgets and forecasts to presenting financial results to senior leadership, the Director of Finance will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Medicaid finance in the District.

Responsibilities

  • Drive financial strategy, reporting, and planning to support growth, sustainability, and operational excellence.
  • Lead, mentor, and inspire a high-performing finance team, fostering engagement, trust, and professional development.
  • Represent the organization in regulatory meetings, oversee audits, and act as the primary liaison on all financial regulatory matters.
  • Stay current on Medicaid managed care trends, competitive strategies, and market developments to inform decision-making.
  • Oversee financial filings, conduct industry benchmark analyses, and provide data-driven recommendations for key business initiatives.
  • Deliver clear, actionable insights to senior leadership through variance analysis, board presentations, and financial storytelling.
  • Manage budgeting and forecasting cycles, ensuring timely, accurate reporting and explanations of variances.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams on payroll, expense management, and other critical financial processes.
  • Contribute to quality and service improvement initiatives, enhancing collaboration and efficiency across finance functions.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field required; MBA or MHA strongly preferred.
  • Experience: 8–10 years of progressive finance/accounting leadership experience within managed care, health plans, or healthcare delivery systems.
  • Expertise:
    • In-depth knowledge of Medicaid managed care is required.
    • Strong command of GAAP, payer regulations, and health plan financial performance metrics.
    • CPA certification preferred.
  • Skills:
    • Proven leadership and team-building capabilities.
    • Advanced proficiency in Excel and financial systems (PeopleSoft, Hyperion a plus).
    • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to translate financial data into compelling narratives.
    • Analytical, solutions-oriented mindset with the ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
