Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced Environmental Specialist to support regulatory compliance activities related to 40 CFR Part 112 (Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure – SPCC) within natural gas utility operations. This contract role serves as a technical environmental resource, supporting regulatory interpretation, applicability determinations, and compliance implementation across operational facilities. The position includes a combination of office‑based work and regular field engagement across Maryland, Northern Virginia, and Washington, DC.

 

Per our client contract, candidates must be US Citizens or Green Card Holders.

Responsibilities

  • Support SPCC and environmental compliance programs within utility operations.
  • Perform regulatory applicability reviews and support compliance implementation for tanks and related equipment.
  • Conduct field verification of tanks, internal inspections, and sampling activities, as required.
  • Perform site visits to verify environmental conditions and compliance documentation.
  • Coordinate with field personnel, contractors, and internal teams to support environmental initiatives.Maintain environmental records, support reporting requirements, and assist with audits and regulatory inquiries..

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Natural Resources, or a related field
  • 3+ years of environmental compliance experience, preferably supporting natural gas or utility operations
  • Strong experience interpreting and applying environmental regulations, with emphasis on 40 CFR Part 112
  • Handson experience applying SPCC and tank regulations in utility, energy, or industrial environments.
  • Ability to work effectively with operations, engineering, and regulatory agencies.
  • Willingness to spend up to approximately 30% of time in the field.
  • Ability to work outdoors in urban and industrial environments and varying terrain.
  • Ability to wear required PPE, including hard hat, highvisibility vest, safety glasses, and steeltoe footwear (steeltoes not provided).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Direct experience developing and maintaining SPCC Plans
  • Familiarity with oilcontaining equipment used in utility operations
  • Stormwater compliance experience related to oil management and BMPs
  • Experience supporting regulatory inspections or responding to compliance inquiries
  • Professional certifications (CHMM, CSP, PE, or similar).
