Overview

The Squires Group is seeking a Safety Field Specialist to support field operations by promoting a strong safety culture, identifying workplace hazards, ensuring regulatory compliance, and driving continuous safety improvement initiatives. This field-based role serves as a safety resource to operations personnel, contractors, and leadership teams, providing coaching, guidance, and oversight across construction, maintenance, operational, and emergency response activities.

 

This position requires a hands-on professional who can effectively build relationships, influence safe work practices, conduct inspections and investigations, and support safety programs in a dynamic field environment.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct field observations, safety inspections, audits, and job site evaluations.
  • Identify hazards, unsafe conditions, and at-risk behaviors, recommending corrective actions as needed.
  • Provide real-time safety coaching to employees and contractors.
  • Participate in pre-job planning meetings, safety briefings, and risk assessments.
  • Monitor compliance with OSHA regulations, company policies, procedures, and industry standards.
  • Support facility inspections, regulatory audits, and contractor safety oversight activities.
  • Assist with investigations involving incidents, injuries, near misses, vehicle accidents, and property damage.
  • Gather documentation, witness statements, photographs, and other evidence to support investigations.
  • Participate in root cause analysis and development of corrective and preventive actions.
  • Support safety training programs, toolbox talks, onboarding activities, and safety awareness campaigns.
  • Conduct Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), and other risk assessments.
  • Support emergency response activities, drills, exercises, and post-event reviews.
  • Maintain inspection records, safety reports, corrective action logs, and compliance documentation.
  • Assist with safety metrics reporting, trend analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Safety, Occupational Health, Environmental Health & Safety, Engineering, Risk Management, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in safety, construction, utilities, industrial operations, manufacturing, military, or related environments.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and workplace safety best practices.
  • Experience conducting field inspections, safety observations, or compliance audits.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to influence safe behaviors and work effectively with employees, contractors, and leadership.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to operational locations as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 4–7 years of safety experience supporting field operations, construction projects, utilities, or industrial environments.
  • ASP, OHST, CHST, CSP, or similar professional safety certification (or progress toward certification).
  • Experience within utility, pipeline, natural gas, construction, energy, or contractor management environments.
  • Experience conducting incident investigations and root cause analyses.
  • Knowledge of DOT, PHMSA, OSHA, and utility industry safety regulations.
  • ICS 100 and ICS 200 certifications

Work Environment

  • Primarily field-based position with frequent travel to operational and project locations.
  • Regular exposure to construction sites, utility operations, industrial facilities, and outdoor work environments.
  • Must be able to walk uneven terrain, climb stairs, access active construction sites, and perform field inspections.
  • May require extended hours, nights, weekends, and holidays in support of emergency response or operational needs.
  • Frequent local travel is required.

Compensation

  • The compensation for this role as a consultant starts at $25/hour, based on experience and qualifications. This rate is subject to change.
  • Benefits vary by compensation type and may include paid time off (PTO), medical, dental, and vision coverage, life insurance, long-term disability insurance, a 401(k) plan, and additional optional benefits.
